Understanding and Function Intercooler on the Machine

Understanding and Function Intercooler on the Machine - On a turbo diesel engine must be equipped with an Intercooler component. then what is the Intercooler and what are its functions on the machine?

The Intercooler's definition is a heat-releasing component used to reduce the temperature of the substance entering it in this case the cooled air.

As the name implies, the intercooler function serves to cool on the inside of the system, meaning that air cooling process is done after entering the water induction circuit.

Cooling process is done because on turbo diesel, air is absorbed by turbo. but because the turbo is directly related to the exhaust gases then the intake air temperature is also heat induced, so it needs to be cooled using a cooler circuit. If not cooled then the hot air directly into the engine, whereas the higher the air temperature molecule is greater so that the volume of air in the combustion chamber is a little, the impact on low compression pressure.

The way Intercoolers work is almost the same as turbo where the air entering the cooler component will be cooled through the process of heat transfer from the air fins to the outside air through the airflow.

The parts inside an intercooler among others:

  1. Inlet house as space to enter air from filter
  2. Air pipe as an air drain from inlet to outlet house
  3. Air fins as a medium for heat release
  4. Outlet house as space for cooled air

The location of the Intercooler is usually on the radiator. in this component usually placed some similar components such as intercooler, oil cooler, condenser, and radiator.

The location of this component is on the front so that the air from the outside can immediately cool the water induction system.

For position on the air induction system exists between turbo and throtle body. The existence of turbo and intercooler that complement each other, if existence intercooler is not supported turbo then the machine suction process will be heavy because the intercooler hole is narrow. and when the existence of turbo is not supported intercooler then the compression pressure can be low due to hot air entering the engine.
